What Affects the Price of a New Windscreen
Make and model
Glass for a common hatchback costs less than glass for a European SUV, a ute with a large screen, or a commercial vehicle.
Glass type
Original (OEM) glass usually costs more than aftermarket glass. Both are available, and we'll explain the difference for your car.
Built-in features
Rain sensors, heated screens, head-up displays, acoustic glass and tint bands all change the part that's needed.
Driver-assistance cameras
Cars with lane assist or auto braking need ADAS calibration after a new windscreen. It's included in your quote.
Save Money
Repair the Chip Before It Spreads
A windscreen chip repair costs a fraction of a new windscreen. Chips up to the size of a NZ $1 coin can usually be repaired, as long as they're outside the driver's direct line of sight, and the repair takes 30 to 60 minutes at your home or work.
Leave it, and Tauranga's temperature changes and road vibration can turn a chip into a crack. Cracks up to about 15cm (6 inches) can sometimes be saved with a windscreen crack repair if they're caught early, but longer cracks, or cracks that reach the edge of the glass, mean a windscreen replacement.

How much does a rear or side window replacement cost?
Rear and side window replacements start from $400, depending on your vehicle and the type of glass. Heated rear screens and tinted or privacy glass cost more. Your quote includes the glass, fitting and travel.
Is there a call-out fee for mobile service?
No. There's no separate call-out fee. Travel is built into your quote, including for outlying areas like Katikati, Ōmokoroa, Te Puke and Maketu.
Can the price change after I get a quote?
No. Your quote includes the glass, labour, travel and any ADAS calibration, and it won't change once it's agreed.
Will my insurance cover it?
Most comprehensive policies cover windscreen damage. We lodge the claim with your insurer for you and get their approval before starting, and in most cases there's no excess to pay.
Is it cheaper to repair a chip than replace the windscreen?
Yes, by a long way. A chip repair is $115 compared with $400 or more for a new windscreen, which is why it pays to get a chip repaired before it spreads into a crack.
